Struggling with constipation and looking for a few natural remedies? You don’t have to medicate to get this under control! Here are my tried and true 3 natural remedies to more frequent and easy bowel movements.
Ok here we go… this is my least favorite thing to talk about… but it’s SO relevant and important!
1. Magnesium Citrate
Our first and most necessary method of detox is our “output” aka poop and pee. If you are not pooping at least once a day we need to look into why.
Magnesium helps relax the muscles of the digestive tract and neutralize stomach acid allowing your poop to pass on. It also is an osmotic laxative, pulling water into the intestines, making your stool softer and much easier to pass.
I have been taking Calm Magnesium for literally 5 years now and LOVE IT. It has never failed me. All You have to do is add a scoop to a glass of water and drink up. I promise you’ll be moving again within 24 hours. My favorite flavor is their Raspberry Lemon, its vegan, non GMO and will even help improve your sleep.
2. Toilet Stool
Another damper on our regularity is simply positioning.
A basic foot stool, potty stool, or squatty potty can provide pretty instant relief. This is especially true if you are postpartum or pregnant and cannot strain your pelvic floor.
When people use posture-changing devices to squat, studies show, they go more quickly. You inevitability strain less and empty your bowels more completely than when you sit on the toilet flat footed. This is especially important if you are struggling with hemorrhoids *cue Micheal Scott “I HAVE HEMORRHOIDSSSSSS”*
*Mom Hack* I just use the stool my kids stand on to wash their hands!
3. Spore Based Probiotic
Last but not least we have a good old probiotic- but not all probiotics are made the same! This is important!!! Most probiotics are trashed the minute they come into contact with your stomach acid. This is why a good spore based probiotic, like this one, will help.
Spore based probiotics can handle your stomach acid with out become denatured. When they reach your intestines (where we need them) they spring into action, releasing the beneficial bacteria.
A PubMed study conducted on 150 people with IBS revealed that supplementing with probiotics for 60 days helped improve bowel regularity and stool consistency.
If probiotics aren’t in the budget and you don’t have a histamine sensitivity no worries! Read my blog post, Gut Health For Dummies or 5 Benefits of Sauerkraut and get yourself some good fermented food like kimchi, sauerkraut or kefir. The bacteria in those foods work gut healing magic, so eat up and let them do their thing.
